THE PIG CHILD (short)

Creative England / BFI Funded

shot on 16mm

10 minute narrative short

A female embryologist, driven by ambition and a desire to push the boundaries, illegally creates a part human-part pig embryo. Unwilling to stop the experiment, she secretly continues it, using her own body as  surrogate - not expecting it to become a viable pregnancy.  But it does..

Consumed and isolated by her arrogant decision she ultimately has to face her responsibility towards the life she has so thoughtlessly created.

The Pig Child | BFI NET.WORK

We always knew Lucy's film would be outrageously ambitious - exploring complex themes through a sci-fi premise, with a very contemporary feminist perspective - but it's exactly the kind of film NET.WORK is here to support.

Interview by Lucy Campbell: Masculinity and Femininity Are Tested At Sea in Lucy Campbell’s Poetic ‘Marina and Adrienne’

Passing themselves off as fishermen, two fugitive female lovers find work on a trawler. Far out at sea, a violent storm picks up and Marina, revealed to be female and pregnant, gives birth on board, amongst the oil, ice and fish, to the shock and wonder of the old fishermen. Unable to stop the bleeding, Marina dies. In the grip of the merciless storm, and driven by superstition, the fishermen insist the body goes overboard, with the baby, the only way to calm the sea’s anger.

Toured with the British Council's Shakespeare on Screen Programme 2016 to 150 different international screening.
